Locate a dual coaxial cable coming from the feed horn of the satellite dish. Run these cables into your house to the computer location.
Set up the modem for your satellite Internet connection. Usually it's a stand-alone unit but can be a card that installs in the central processing unit (CPU). If your connection uses a card, you'll need to install it in your computer before continuing.
Plug the coaxial cables into the two ports on the modem. One will be marked "Sat In" and the other "Sat Out." Your cables should be marked. If they aren't, you are going to have to access the dish to see which one comes from which connection on the feed horn.
Connect these cables by pushing them straight into the ports and then secure them. Most have a threaded connector to hold them securely to the modem.
Snap one end of an Ethernet cable into the port for that purpose on the back of the modem and plug the other end into the Ethernet port on your CPU. Skip this step if yours is an internal modem.
Energize the external modem by plugging one end of a power cord into it and the other into a surge suppressor/power director.
Install any needed software on your computer and check for proper Internet operation.
